GamesCom 2018: F4F Spyro Reignited PVC Figure EX Revealed! Sparx!

Ever since First 4 Figures announced the acquisition of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon licenses from Activision in Spring 2017 (and subsequently revealed the Crash PVC figure), fans have been begging for a Spyro PVC figure. And while CEO Alex Davis was able to play coy for many months, he finally confirmed this summer that a PVC Spyro was on the way. And via a Facebook video in the F4F OCC Facebook Group on the eve of Gamescom 2018, the the purplest PVC dragon has now been revealed—including a Spyro PVC Exclusive Version with Sparx!

First 4 Figures Spyro PVC Statue with Sparx GamesCom 2018When First 4 Figures’ classic Spyro the Dragon resin statue shattered all expectations with its surprising number of orders last summer, it seemed like only a matter of time until Spyro would take flight again as a smaller (and cheaper) PVC statue.

And after close to a year of requests from collectors, that time is now! Based off his appearance in the upcoming Spyro Reignited Trilogy video game compilation, Spyro made his grandiose debut on the eve of GamesCom 2018 this week (where he’ll be on display for GamesCom attendees to check out—and order via special Pre-Order Packs—in person at the F4F booth during the whole show).

F4F TF001 Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot PVCsWhereas last year’s Breath of the Wild Link and Crash Bandicoot PVC statues were standalone pieces, F4F is rebranding that style of game-accurate PVCs to True Form (TF) this year, with Spyro the first numbered piece in the line: TF 001 / 01 SPY.

Close-Up of the Spyro the Dragon Reignited PVC Statue by First4FiguresLook at how glossy and lifelike Spyro’s eyes are! Gorgeous!! But as beautiful as they are, there’s still room for improvement: F4F has confirmed that the shading around the edges of Spyro’s eyes will be reduced for the final product. In addition, the seam around his mouth will be reduced in visibility and the arm touching the red gem on the base will be perfected to touch it properly.

Side View of First4Figures Spyro PVC StatueWe don’t know the pricing for Spyro just yet, but if Link and Crash are any indication, he’s likely to carry an MSRP of somewhere in the neighborhood of $75-$100. The pink and purple base that the figure is standing atop is game-accurate and based directly off of a world from the new game.

Close-Up of F4F Sparx Dragonfly with Spyro PVCAs usual, First 4 Figures has cooked up a special Exclusive Edition that will be available exclusively through their own web store and not any other retailer. This time, the EX isn’t just bonus packaging like it was for the Crash PVC—it’s Sparx the Dragonfly, Spyro’s best friend!

Rear View of EX Spyro the Dragon PVC First 4 Figures with SparxAs the resin Sparx & Dragon Egg Statue that was in development is seemingly on hold indefinitely, this EX PVC that comes with Sparx permanently attached to Spyro’s wing ought to make many fans of the dragonfly very happy!

Back of PVC Spyro the Dragon Figure Gamescom 2018While some fans were hoping to request revisions to the statue such as non-moving wings for Sparx or a differently-designed base, Alex Davis confirmed on Facebook that the factory’s steel tooling for the figure is already complete and will not be revised, as F4F would like to have the PVC released as closely as possible to the release of the Reignited Trilogy in November:

F4F Spyro Reignited Trilogy Spyro & Sparx Statue“Hey guys – regarding Spyro TF change requests – To be clear – the steel tooling is done for this and we’re pushing as hard to get this as close as we can to the release date of the game. There is a huge difference between resin and pvc change requests when the model is already at the steel mold stage – basically can’t be done due to the costs involved with steel tools as well as the fact that steel molds take 45 days+ to make.

You know I’m very receptive to feedback – but that’s on a resin piece where there isn’t any natural deadline to get a piece out. I want Spyro out in the shops as close to Game release date as possible to ride the Spyro game hype. Every day counts when you’re working with chain stores.

No changes will be made and no distractions from getting this into retail. #laserfocused”

Spyro Reignited Trilogy PVC Figure Statue First 4 FiguresThe First4Figures Spyro PVC Statue Exclusive is expected to go up for sale in September 2018 on the F4F website. The EX version with Sparx will only be available via the online website, so fans of the most-loved dragonfly in video games (Sorry, Yanma!) will want to make sure to order Spyro & Sparx during the one-month exclusive ordering window.

Now that PVC Spyro (with Sparx!) has been revealed, what are your thoughts on the first official release in the First 4 Figures TF (True Form) PVC figure line? Do you prefer your purple dragon with or without dragonfly, and will you be adding either (or both?!) to your collection?
