Although it’s one of the most popular video game franchises of the 21st century (and perhaps of all-time), Kingdom Hearts fans suffered while a relative drizzle of new toys from Square-Enix were all that were released for years. But several other companies obtained the Kingdom Hearts license in 2017 and started putting out new figures, including Diamond Select Toys. Some of the biggest—and most surprising—news going in New York Toy Fair 2018 this month was the announcement that Diamond Select Toys had obtained the license to produce Sonic the Hedgehog figures and statues. As much of a Kingdom Hearts fanboy as I am, there’s one character in the franchise I’ve always felt a bit cold toward: Riku. The quiet, moody, “Sasuke-like” rival type is just not my thing, so when I do pass on a new Kingdom Hearts figure, it’s usually Riku.
