In October 2017, First 4 Figures posted their official interest poll for statues of popular anime series My Hero Academia. It took a long time and a lot of negotiable, but F4F managed to secure a license for MHA. And last weekend, about 17 months after the official poll was posted, collectors finally got to see prototypes of the first three releases in the F4F My Hero Academia line—which happen to be F4F’s first-ever AFs (Action Figures): three different versions of the #1 Hero, All Might! Couldn’t be at ECCC? I’ve got you covered with hi-res photos and videos!
First 4 Figures made it a closely-kept secret whether or not they’d actually be able to debut their first My Hero Academia statue at Emerald City Comic Con 2019, so I was pretty blown away while helping set up the booth at the show when I saw not one, not two, but three versions of All Might making their way into the display cases!
That’s right, MHA fans: if you’ve got a favorite version of All Might, First4Figures probably has that version coming as an action figure—beginning with Silver Age, Golden Age and Casual iterations!
I took dozens upon dozens of photos of these figures over the courses of the 30+ hours I spent at the ECCC 2019 F4F booth, but I’ve pared it down to some of my favorite photos and videos here for GTN. If anyone wants a photo of a particular version from an angle I didn’t include here, leave a comment and I’ll upload one.
Unlike all of the other PVCs that F4F has produced, All Might will have two points of articulation—at his shoulders—which makes him an action figure (rather than a statue). He’s actually more of a prop replica, as these are meant to be representative of the actual All Might figures Deku has in his dorm room in My Hero Academia.
The versions with bent arms shown at Emerald City Comic Con 2019 are actually the Exclusive versions—the regular versions will only include straight arms (such that All Might can be posed flying or with his arms straight to his sides).
The stratagem with these PVC releases coming before resins is pretty simple—and also pretty solid. Basically, send out affordable, small-sized All Might figures into the marketplace so that anime fans who have never heard of First4Figures will have the opportunity to learn about the company and come on-board for the larger resin pieces coming down the road.
Given than to-date, only two F4F Anime statues have ever been shipped out (Mugen and Saitama)—and both of those were very tiny edition sizes—it makes sense to reach out to anime collectors who very likely don’t know about F4F as an anime statue manufacturer.
Resin fans, have no fear, as F4F CEO Alex Davis has confirmed during his regular live-streamed videos that large resin statues of All Might, Deku and Bakugo are all in the world as well (with either Deku or Bakugo coming first)!
I was watching fans approach the All Might display pretty closely at ECCC last weekend, and while I expected the modern/Golden Age All Might to be the most popular version, there was loads of love for Casual Clothes and Silver Age All Might! It will be very interesting to see which version eventually ends up selling the best!
The prototypes shown at Emerald City Comic Con 2019 were still made of resin, so it’s likely 3-4 months away from when the PVC tooling will be prepared and pre-orders will open up. In addition, some revisions are still being made (such as Golden Age All Might’s belt buckle being slimmed down). F4F expects to sell one version of All Might every 1-2 months and spread them out, rather than putting them all up for sale at once.
Nothing beats still photographs for me, but I know some of you guys are into videos, so I’ve also included videos of all three versions of All Might above and below.
If everything goes smoothly, I anticipate seeing the first First4Figures All Might PVC Statue/Action figure up for PO in mid-summer. Expected price-point is below $100, as all F4F PVCs have been to-date. I’ll continue to post the livestream recaps and updates here, so stay tuned for the latest news on this hotly-demanded line.
Now that you’ve seen an extensive amount of photos and videos of them, how do you feel about F4F’s first foray into MHA (and action figures)? Which of these All Mights (if any) will you be snatching up, and are there any other costumes of the #1 Hero you’d like to see made?
