F4F Q&A #61 Recap!

Another week, another F4F Q&A! There’s no new statue going up for pre-order this week; there’s no statue opening up for Last Chance Weekend; and there’s nothing new being sneak peeked on the show. So what does this week’s edition have to offer? How about: Are Skull Knight and Berserker Armor in museum or dynamic poses? Golden Sun TT! Robotech? Kamina Update! Are the F4F Alucard pre-order sales going well? Kamina! 1:1 Scale Alphonse? Alex Davis’s 5-Second Pose! And more!

F4F Q&A 61 5 Second Pose Alex DavisOn Temptation Thursday TT Polls:

  • F4F never contacts the licensor prior to running a TT to give the licensor a heads-up regarding the TT Poll or to inquire about if the license is obtainable at all–there’s absolutely no guarantee ever when it comes to TT
  • Alex hasn’t spoken to Square-Enix in 13+ years; F4F were “teeny-tiny micro potatoes” at that time: “Perhaps Square-Enix would be more receptive now? Who knows?”
  • There’s a disclaimer on every TT that TT polls are not a guarantee (if anyone bothered to read it)
  • Next Week’s TT: Fulgore from Killer Instinct–This is a Rare franchise, so this would be low-hanging fruit for F4F to try to obtain if the poll does excellently
  • Ace Combat TT was one of the biggest flops ever, so going to test the power of licensing with the TT coming up in two weeks
  • In Two Weeks: Robotech VF-1 TT- – Plane Mode VF-1. Not Guardian mode or any other mode–plane mode only.
  • In Three Weeks: Golden Sun TT!
  • Next Week’s Hashtag is #F4FGORE

The Q&A!:

  • F4F has had contact with My Hero Academia licensor and is now talking, but “It’s complicated!”
  • Morrigan needs to be finished up–has been on the backburner
  • No new replicas to announce right now
  • Bayonetta is looking stunning, but absolutely kicking Alex’s ass
  • F4F may have something crazy like 130 products in development
  • Guts will get the usual pre-order spotlight with documentary and Last Chance Weekend
  • F4F has never considered using rejecting magnets to simulate flying: “too heavy”
  • Approval process, sculpting and feedback are what’s delaying the Zelda BOTW resins statues
  • Alex and Chock both prefer subtitled anime to dubbed anime–although Chock does research to find out if the dub is good or not, and watches those as well if they’re good
  • Yakuza status: Kiryu needs to be reworked, as the project had been given up on prior to the successful TT
  • F4F thinks Guts has a really good shot of being a top line like Zelda and Dark Souls
  • F4F aims to capture the character–not necessarily the manga or anime interpretation of the character
  • Skull Knight and Berserker Armor both have dynamic poses
  • Finishing Genos next week
  • Can always revisit One Punch Man with character polls to gauge character popularity
  • Alex expects to bring two more SOTN characters to life (Dracula and Death); support for Richter Belmont has stalled out for now
  • Shovel Knight pre-orders won’t be opened again, but there will likely be variants later on
  • Final Fantasy VII is the first game Alex can remember his brother saying “What the fuck is wrong with you? You’ve played 100 hours!” for. Memorable game that made Alex fall in love with the JRPGs genre.
  • Modern Amy Rose and Samurai Jack polls are doing well
  • Doing Ultimate versions isn’t as good as doing variants, as they require more molds (not repaints/variants), but certainly better than not even bothering to release characters that don’t have logical variants
  • Alex has decided on a pose for Metal Sonic 2.0, but has to make sure it’s okay
  • No news on Darkstalkers for now
  • Perhaps news on Genos next week
  • First 4 Figures Sif is going to have the edition size completed, so those who joined the Wait List recently will definitely get their Sif statue
  • Earthworm Jim licensor is/was Interplay, but they were putting the license up for sale in 2016: “Would you Kickstarter back us to buy the Earthworm Jim license?”
  • F4F can make statues from other Castlevania games, not just SOTN
  • An absolute dream for Alex would be to make a completely original statue
  • True Form Midna up for order most likely this year; Sheikah Slate–don’t know
  • Nothing to report on future Zelda PVCs
  • Alex is concerned that the amount of pre-orders are outpacing the number of releases, but Alex is putting things in place to make it easier to deal with going forwards; we should see significantly more releases in 2018 than in 2017
  • Alex is absolutely positive that he’s happy to show statues at least a year beforehand so that collectors know that they’re coming and can save up for them
  • Now blog entries will hopefully be posted once a month discussing what’s in production, what’s gone up for order, etc.
  • No Zelda SD line anytime soon–SD line must be an established success in the marketplace before F4F brings it to Nintendo
  • Alex will look into producing F4F beanies or hats
  • Two Fullmetal Alchemist statues in the works; 3 Cowboy Bebop statues in the works; 3 Berserk statues in the works
  • Guts’ Sword is PU like the cape so it’s lighter and has a rod in it
  • Probably one more MGS statues this year, maybe two
  • Dante and Morrigan still in development
  • Warp Star Kirby will absolutely be up for order this year
  • Amaterasu PVC won’t have a super-tiny Issun: “too small”
  • No feedback from Nintendo on True Form Midna yet
  • Snake will start production after Mugen; likely in about a month and a half
  • Alex will discuss Luigi’s Mansion with Nintendo in Las Vegas in May
  • Day-ta, not Dah-ta
  • Phoenix Wright: Coming along nicely
  • Alex is playing a game of Talisman tomorrow–hasn’t played Talisman in 20 years
  • Will revisit Edge 5-second pose next week
  • Mitsurugi is still coming, but some changes are going to be made
  • Alex didn’t think the Modern Amy poll was going to do well–was quite surprised
  • More Zelda masks someday possible
  • Kamina submitted for approval today
  • Sculpted legs under Zelda’s dress–you can see them if you put Zelda on the top shelf of your IKEA detolf without the base–selling point: you can admire the F4F Zelda statue from all angles!
  • Finchy isn’t in the very comprehensive Dark Souls lineup F4F has planned: “RTF”
  • When it comes to sales, Chock is not usually a happy man. But the number of sales thus far have exceeded Chock’s expectations. Alex is concerned there may not be Castlevania statues past Dracula and Death.
  • F4F wants to see how Phoenix Wright sells before pursuing further characters from Ace Attorney
  • Alex and Chocks don’t have time to fall ill–would have to be something serious for the Q&A livestream to be cancelled
  • F4F doesn’t start when the next anime season of Berserk will start
  • First 4 Figures visits several factories to get quotes and then considers multiple factors when choosing which factory to use for a specific statue
  • Will see Guts’ base LED lights on Preview Friday
  • F4F would have loved to offer a Majora’s Mask combo pack with old and new versions, but the final version was Nintendo’s decision
  • First 4 Figures will probably visit Ani-com and Gamescom; 10 most recent pre-orders will be available for order while at the events
  • Will bring the last 10 pieces up for pre-order to GamesCom
  • F4F has Metroid plans–the thing Alex has been working on Metroid-wise has been kicking his ass
  • Would consider making a Legend of Zelda Hyrule Shield and Master Sword replicas
  • Kenshin TT did quite poorly
  • True Form Midna should go up for order before Sheikah Slate
  • Banjo-Kazooie is looking tight
  • Snake and Bowser are being made by different factories–could possibly be in production simultaneously
  • Nito will probably be scaled down a little bit to get his depth the same as Ornstein
  • Reprints hurt the integrity of the final production numbers of a statue
  • If F4F can let people know ahead of time that statue variants will be coming, it would be ideal
  • Collectors won’t be forced to purchase variants like Green Shovel Knight to keep their numbers
  • F4F thinks there’s more pros than negatives to adding variants of statues down the road
  • No news on Dead Space
  • There could be a black-haired Dracula variant statue like in the Netflix series
  • Alex didn’t know about the Okami HD Switch Edition
  • Mario Chess Game: Not F4F’s–made by USAOpoly (first F4F Partnership)
  • Triforce Gears of War Locust Drone Maquette Bust (second F4F Partnership)
  • Alex had no idea that Gravity Suit Samus would become one of the holy grails
  • Alucard’s shield is the life-size Castlevania prop Alex would most want to make
  • No success with Spyro PVC yet
  • No news on All Might aside from “It’s complicated”
  • TT for Calamity Ganon isn’t high on the radar–not much rallying on Funday
  • No specific order to the order Dark Souls statues are being released in
  • Ed Elric probably up for order about 6 months after Alphonse
  • Alex says Alphonse would defeat Wrath in a fight to the death
  • Hopefully Majora’s Mask will be ready to ship to America toward the end of March
  • The higher the number of votes in any TT, the better–it’s hard to deny looking into any franchise at 750-800
  • Measurements were given for Guts at New York Comic Con
  • 1:1 Scale Alphonse? “RTF”
  • 253 votes for Richter Belmont isn’t bad, but Alex is worried that the trajectory of the poll has flat-lined. Keep an eye on this poll.
  • What annoys Alex? Guys trying to outbid him on a license plate that has nothing to do with them.
