Sometimes, things are just meant to be. How else could you explain the fact that—over 32 months after going up for sale—the 1:4 First4Figures Varia Suit Samus Statue has finally been released and is in the first collector’s hands… within 24 hours of the next Metroid piece in the line making its grand debut! The F4F Meta-Ridley Statue will go up for order later today—and we can get a pretty good idea of how amazing the quality is going to be from these in-hand photos and impressions of Varia Suit Samus…
It’s been a long road for the First4Figures Varia Suit Samus 1/4 Statue. And when I say long, I mean long. After going up for order on May 10 2016, Samus was delayed until she got final approval from Nintendo a year and a half later in December 2017.
F4F reopened Last Chance Weekend orders for Samus until January 2nd 2018, and then the waiting began anew. It took another year for the factory to perfect the complicated piece, but the wait is over at last and the final product has now started arriving!
The initial shipments of the Samus Varia Suit Statue are going to Australia/Asia, with most of the world scheduled to receive her starting next month. This week, Ashley Rose of the F4F OCC Facebook Group was the first collector in the world to report receiving her Samus! What follows are her photos and first-hand impressions of the piece…
In order to minimize potential damages due to the shipping process, the statue is packaged in not one–but two–boxes (AKA double shippers): “Double shipper for added protection! She is VERY tightly packed in the art box… had to play tug of war with Mum to get her out!”
As usual, inside of the art boxes, we find the customized styrofoam inserts that protect the statue, along with the authentication card used to reserve the statue’s number for the next piece released in the series.
Ashley had one minor issue with her statue, but it’s one she was able to fix quickly and easily by herself: “Only one slight problem: the right chest LED cover had dislodged, but I was able to move it back into place with toothpicks.”
Once she quickly fixed that minor snafu with her piece, Ashley sounded like a pretty happy camper: “Oh my… ❤️❤️❤️ She is gorgeous!!”
So what’s the overall verdict from the first collector in the world to report in after receiving this hotly-anticipated piece? “All good!! I’m so happy to have her!”
Huge thanks to Ashley Rose, both for giving me permission to repost her photos of Samus, and also for sending in additional photographs and insights to be included with this article! I’ll be happy to add additional photos and impressions from other collectors as more Varia Suit Samus F4F statues are received, so if you’d like your thoughts and pictures to be added to this article, just shoot me a message or leave a reply here.
Now that you’ve had the opportunity to see her in all of her final production glory and in collector hands, what do you think of Varia Suit Samus, Nintendo fans? Was she worth the 32-month wait, and are you psyched enough to order the new Ridley statue this weekend now that you’ve seen the quality of Samus?
