Press day is behind us and the first official day of GamesCom 2019 has arrived! And once again, this contention serves as the flagship show for First4Figures, who have brought along a number of world premieres to share at the event (as well as revealing and launching pre-orders for their Gears 5 Kait Statue)! And first up is an oldie but a goodie, as the Lord of Shadows himself makes his public worldwide debut: the Castlevania Symphony of the Night F4F Dracula Statue is in the house (or rather, “on the con floor”)!
It’s hard to believe, but true: it has now been nearly two full years since the First 4 Figures Alucard Statue debuted at New York Comic Con 2019, kicking off the hotly-anticipated Castlevania Symphony of the Night series of statues.
Alucard went up for order in early 2018, but it’s been a long wait for the second character in the SOTN lineup to arrive for pre-orders. But after being delayed since last fall in order to improve the head sculpt, Alucard’s daddy was finally ready to appear at the 2019 Gamescom this week!
And the result…? Well—it’s pretty dang impressive, from what I’m hearing from those at the event!
Dimitri Daoutis was kind enough to send over photos that he took at GamesCom 2019 this week, showing us the latest revised (and almost certainly final!) prototype of F4F Dracula himself! I compiled his photos and the short video he submitted in order to make the video above. Thanks so much, Dimitri!
At a glance, Dracula looks fantastic to me. I haven’t traditionally been the biggest fan of the Castlevania video game series (to this day I insist SOTN is over when you kill Richter Belmont), but I love the heck out of the Netflix animated series, which has (oddly enough) heightened my appreciation for SOTN Dracula.
Initial fan response to this First4Figures Dracula Statue seems to be very positive, with not many complaints going on regarding anything but the base.
Just like with Alucard, Dracula’s base is small for cost and space-saving reasons (which I am fully on-board with), but the design on the base isn’t necessarily a grand slam. Rather than a terrain or carpeted base, F4F opted for a design that’s reminiscent of the inside of Drac’s cape. Dimitri said it looks “like fondant”, and now I’m having a hard time getting that out of my head.
Even so—base aside—I think this is a pretty fantastic depiction of Symphony of the Night Dracula in 1:4 Statue form. And with Drac not yet announced for this type of treatment from any other company, I think he’s going to be quite popular when he goes up for sale.
While the pre-order schedule is always in motion, I expect to see the First 4 Figures Dracula up for order online in September/October 2019. There are no other large new statues debuting for F4F at Gamescom (unless they’re still holding out on some surprises), so it stands to reason Dracula POs will be sooner than later.
After being delayed for almost a whole year, what do you think, Castlevania fans? Was this Dracula Statue worth the wait, and will you be buying it once pre-orders launch?
Does the base look a little simple?
