Gamescom 2019 has come and gone, and as expected, it was another whirlwind of a show for First 4 Figures! As Gamescom is the F4F flagship event, we were hoping to see updates on items we haven’t seen prototypes of in a while and some brand new pieces revealed—and that’s exactly what we got! Need a recap of everything that happened in the F4World last week…? I’ve got you covered, with news on Gears of War, new pins and wristbands, Castlevania, Spyro, a Varia Suit unboxing and more…!
Gears 5 Kait Diaz Statue Reveal & Pre-Orders
The biggest news of last week for First 4 Figures fans—by a landslide—was the announcement of both the acquisition of the Gears of War license, followed by the full reveal and pre-orders opening for the Gears 5 Kait Diaz statue in regular, exclusive and even Definitive Editions.
I wrote a lengthy article containing both photos from GamesCom and my own impressions of Kait, so be sure to check those out if you’re interested in this inaugural F4F Gears of War offering.
Varia Suit Samus Exclusive Unboxing
Three years, a couple months and a handful of days (I’m not counting) after going up for order, collectors in the United States are finally starting to receive Varia Suit Samus!
I was lucky enough to have mine in the first batch arriving in the US, so I took a video of myself awkwardly unboxing Samus EX and putting her together. I actually got in front of the camera this time out, so I’m told this trumped my previous (and only other) unboxing of Spike Spiegel!
F4F Castlevania SOTN Dracula Statue Revealed
The other fully-painted resin statue that First4Figures dropped the curtain on at GamesCom was Dracula from Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I wrote up and posted an article discussing this SOTN Dracula statue reveal, as well as putting together a quick video (above) with some Gamescom 2019 footage and photos of Alucard’s daddy.
As this is one of just four resin statues we’ve seen painted sneak peeks of but haven’t seen solicited yet (the other three being Neo-Cortex, Skull Knight and the new resin Amaterasu), it seems like a safe bet we’ll be seeing Dracula pre-orders before Halloween if all goes well!
Cheat Code Spyro PVCs and Mini Metal Crystal Dragons
They fell off the Sneak Peeks radar for a few months, but have no fear Spyro fans—F4F was just hiding them for a bit to gear up for a grandiose Gamescom display of Cheat Code Spyro PVC figures and a variety of Mini Metal Crystal Dragons!
All seven cheat code colors of Spyro are accounted for—red, yellow, pink, green, black, blue and purple—so soon we’ll hopefully be able to make a whole Spyro rainbow in our home collections!
Meanwhile, Alex posted a sneak peek of a chromed gold Mini Metal Crystal Dragon on Facebook, teasing that we may see variants beyond the silver, blue, green and brushed gold ones that appeared at Gamescom last week. This is something totally different and fresh for F4F, so it’ll be pretty compelling to see how the concept fares once orders open up!
Mega Man PVC and Resin Prototypes
Alex Davis has been teasing us with sneak peeks and renders of the upcoming Mega Man statue for over half a year now, and at Gamescom we finally got to see the full design unpainted—sized for both resin and PVC offerings!
Variant colors are one of the great loves of my life, and this Mega Man seems primed for that, so I’m highly looking forward to seeing more of this piece in the months ahead.
Amaterasu PVCs and Resin Statue
Although the large resin version of the new Amaterasu statue previously appeared at E3 2019 in California, she made her overseas collecting debut in Germany last week in front of her smaller PVC selves! This upsized Ammy is looking magnificent, and I can’t wait to see the (hopefully) inevitable resin variant of her with the Sword of Kusanagi as well!
2019-2020 F4F Pins and Wristbands!
I’ve given out last year’s First edition First 4 Figures wristbands and pins around the country this year in more states than anybody on Earth, so I was probably more giddy than anybody to see the brand new 2019-2020 F4F wristbands and pins in circulation at Gamescom 2019!
This year’s wristbands are black with blue writing instead of blue with white writing, while the pins feature a white background instead of black this time. I am probably the most excited person on Earth about these, quite frankly. Ha.
New F4F Statue Business Cards
In addition to the new F4F pins and wristbands, new business card-like product cards also debuted at Gamescom, including cards for the new Spyro Reignited resin, Sword of Kusanagi Amaterasu and the Sonic and Tails Diorama.
There’s even a new card spotlighting the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog PVC (which I don’t believe we’ve ever seen painted outside of this card)! Excitement!!
PAX West 2019 and King Chockles’ Butt
There’s no rest for the weary, as Chockles and a Peggy actress have already left for the United States, where they’re exhibiting at the PAX West booth in Seattle, Washington this Labor Day weekend! If you’re at PAX West, make sure to stop by to get selfies with Chock and “Peggy” (and buy something at a sweet discount)!
And speaking of Chockles—! In exchange for my usage of her photos from Gamescom, I promised Neffi Paman that I would also feature this photo she took of King Chockles’ butt at Gamescom. Promise made—promise kept!
And on that semi-professional note, that’s it for this week’s recap! Did any of last week’s happenings catch your interest, #F4Family? What are you looking forward to on the F4Front in the coming days and weeks? (And big thanks to Neffi Pamin and Melissa Isabel Seckler for sending in their Gamecom photos with permission to be used in this article!)
So many good things to come! Thanks for the review! From all those Who can’t go to the conventions!
